Maths week was celebrated this year from Monday October 14th to Friday October 18th where the children had great fun engaging in mathematical activities and games throughout the week. The children put great effort into designing Maths Week 2019 posters which were on display throughout the school.
Children participated in maths games in their classes, maths stations, answered mathematical puzzles and riddles as well as participated in various indoor and outdoor maths trails around the school. Junior Infants to 2nd classes enjoyed a fun day of maths stations and games in the hall while 3rd to 6th classes had great fun in a 'Maths Escape Room' challenge! 2nd class attended the 'Murderous Maths' presentation by Kjartan Poskitt in the Helix. Kjarten is the author of the 'Murderous Maths' series of books. It was an interactive workshop full of mathematical tricks and it was very enjoyable. 3rd class participated in 'Lego Challenges', Marsh's Library in town where in groups they had to solve problems involving shape and space, logic and fractions. 4th class participated in an organised maths trail in Castletown House, Celbridge answering questions based on many beautiful rooms of the house. Finally 6th class enjoyed an 'Izak 9' demo workshop on Tuesday 15th October. Izak 9 are a set of 27 colourful cubes, a resource which promotes problem solving, reasoning and fluency and encourages teamwork and resilience. On Friday, all children had to dress up in clothes that had a mathematical theme and there were some very imaginative costumes. A very enjoyable day and week for all! Comments are closed.
